URBANA, Ill. — The Marshfield girls soccer team earned its first victory of the season and finished 1-2 at the Urbana Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

The Tigers opened the tournament with a 2-1 loss to St. Thomas More on Friday night. Marshfield was blanked by Herscher (Ill.) 5-0 on Saturday before beating host Urbana 1-0 to end up 1-2 in the tournament and move to 1-4 this season.

Maddie Haessly scored on an assist from Olivia Haessly for Marshfield’s only goal in the win over Urbana.

Kate Herron finished with nine saves, and Andrea Carolfi and Wendy Rodriguez each had six saves for Marshfield in goal during the tournament.

“We need to have better first touches and connect more passes to better compete,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “We will develop this in the upcoming weeks to really start clicking on the field.

“With limited outdoor opportunities, we have had to use games for teaching. This week we can use what we did in the games to re-enforce the teaching we have started.”

Marshfield opens its Wisconsin Valley Conference schedule Tuesday at Wausau West.
