PARK FALLS — Chequamegon scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull out to a 4-3 victory over Stratford in a nonconference softball game Tuesday as both teams opened their 2016 seasons.
Stratford led 2-1 after scoring single runs in the fourth and fifth innings before the Screaming Eagles rallied for three in the bottom of the sixth against Stratford pitcher Kiana Weiler.
The Tiger scored once in top of the seventh but could not push the tying run across.
Lorrie Luepke tossed three shutout innings and had three hits, including two doubles, and an RBI for Stratford. Brittany Bredemann also added a pair of hits for the Tigers.
“I’m very proud of our group,” Stratford coach Mandy Pankratz said. “We did some things both defensively and offensively that are very exciting. We definitely have things to work on, and this group is determined to work together to improve each time out.”
Stratford will play three games at the Poynette Invitational on Saturday.
