New Visions Gallery hosts 31st annual display of Marshfield student artwork
For Hub City Times
MARSHFIELD — The original artwork of Marshfield students will be on display in New Visions Gallery’s 31st annual Emerging Talents exhibit March 7 through April 15. An opening reception will be held Sunday, March 6, from 1-3 p.m., featuring hands-on art activities for children and refreshments. This event is free and open to the public.
In a time when many view the inclusion of arts education as an amenity, research shows that the inclusion of visual arts education is integral to the development of students, including improving motor skills, language, decision making skills, visual learning, inventiveness, cultural awareness, and improved overall academic performance. Students that participate in the arts are four times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement, according to studies by Americans for the Arts.
The talented young people in Marshfield have an honest and brave way of expressing what they see in this world. Local arts educators get to nourish and experience it daily and now also get to share it with the community.
Each year all Marshfield schools, public and private, are invited to participate in Emerging Talents. Outstanding student artwork from all grade levels — kindergarten through high school — is selected by Marshfield’s arts educators. This year’s exhibit includes paintings, collage, jewelry, ceramics, and more.
Guest judge Kelsey Neal, a UW-Stevens Point arts management student from Las Vegas, will select 10 Excellence Awards from works by students in grades nine through 12. Each winner will receive a gift certificate for art supplies from Dick Blick. Awards are sponsored by Dick Blick and New Visions Gallery’s Art Partners.
School and community group tours are available for this exhibit, made possible in part through a grant from the Marshfield Area Community Foundation. Interested parties should contact New Visions Gallery to schedule a date and time and to learn more about available stipends for transportation costs.
New Visions Gallery — located in the lobby of Marshfield Clinic at 1000 N. Oak Ave. — is open 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. on weekdays. Admission is always free, thanks in part to donations from Art Partners. Exhibition space and other support is donated by Marshfield Clinic. For more information, contact New Visions Gallery at 715-387-5562 or [email protected].
