MARSHFIELD — McKayla Scheuer and Hannah Meverden each had 15 points to lead the Marshfield girls basketball team to a 67-39 rout of Wisconsin Rapids in a WIAA Division 1 regional semifinal Friday night at Marshfield High School.

The Tigers raced out to a 38-18 lead by halftime and cruised from there, winning their seventh-straight game and improving to 21-2 this season.

Maddie Nikolai and Ema Fehrenbach each added 10 points for Marshfield.

Marshfield will host Eau Claire North (13-10) in a regional final Saturday at 7 p.m. North defeated D.C. Everest 50-38 in a regional semifinal Friday.

The Tigers won a nonconference game over North 51-43 at home on Jan. 26.

“We came out and played like we were supposed to,” Marshfield coach Heidi Michaelis said. “We took care of business and got the job done. We came out and hit threes against their zone, and that just opened everything up.”

Marshfield shot an efficient 55 percent (26 of 47) and was 7 of 14 from 3-point range, including 5 of 7 from Scheuer.

The Tigers rolled despite turning in the ball over 26 times as they held Rapids (3-20) to 29 percent shooting (14 of 47) and forced 26 turnovers of their own.

“We scored from the inside and outside, and when we do that we are that much tougher to defend,” Michaelis said. “It’s all about getting to play again tomorrow night against a very good Eau Claire North team. We are excited for that opportunity.”
