SHAWANO – Stratford had five champions and six others that finished in the top three as it will send 11 to next week’s WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament after action Saturday at the WIAA Division 3 sectional at Shawano High School.

The Tigers, who also qualified for the WIAA State Team Tournament after winning the team sectional last Tuesday over Coleman, will be well represented at the Kohl Center on Feb. 25-27 as 11 of the 12 wrestlers at the individual sectional finished in the top three.

Jake Drexler (45-2) defeated Matthew Grossman of Pittsville 8-6 to win the 113-pound championship for Stratford.

Mason Kauffman, who also won a state title at 126 last year, will go into this year’s state tournament unbeaten again after beating Kevin Lansin of Coleman 10-3 to capture the 152-pound title. Kauffman, a sophomore, is now 97-0 in his career.

Bornbach, a D-3 champ at 182 last year, will get a chance to repeat at the same weight after winning the sectional title match by tech fall over Hunter Stodola of Coleman 23-8.

Tyson Kauffman will be making a repeat appearance at state after winning the 285-pound title match over Tyson Sommer of Athens with a pin in 5:01.
