Scheuer tops Tigers with 18 points

By Paul Lecker

Sports Reporter

WESTON — For the first time since 2011, the Marshfield girls basketball team is sole champion of the Wisconsin Valley Conference.

McKayla Scheuer scored 18 points to lead the Tigers to a hard-fought 44-37 victory at D.C. Everest on Friday night, pushing Marshfield’s record to a perfect 10-0 in the WVC with two games remaining. Merrill is three games behind in the standings.

The conference championship is Marshfield coach Heidi Michaelis’ eighth in her 15 years as head coach and is the program’s first since winning four in a row from ’07-’08 through ’10-’11.

Marshfield (18-2 overall) led 23-18 at halftime and was able to hold on from there, holding the Evergreens (10-9, 6-4 WVC) to 19 points in the second half.

Hannah Meverden had 10 points, four blocked shots, and five rebounds for Marshfield.

The Tigers play at Wisconsin Rapids on Monday and wrap up their regular-season schedule Thursday at home against Wausau East.
