National Farm Medicine Center to offer free skin cancer screenings Feb. 17

MARSHFIELD — The National Farm Medicine Center will offer free skin cancer screenings at the Marshfield Farm Show, Wednesday, Feb. 17, Marshfield Mall, 503 E. Ives. St., Marshfield.
Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States as it is developed by 1 in 5 people. Those who work in the sun, such as farmers, are more at risk. The earlier skin cancer is detected, the more successfully it can be treated.
Just stop by the National Farm Medicine Center screening area in the Community Room, located up the steps and toward the Younkers store, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Screenings will be conducted by physicians from the Marshfield Clinic dermatology department.
Feel free to ask about any spots about which you are worried. The dermatologist will educate you about what to look for, such as any changes in the size, color, borders, or shape of a mole. If the doctor sees anything suspicious, you will be encouraged to follow-up with your personal physician or dermatologist.
Approximately 50 people were screened earlier this winter at each the Wisconsin Potato and Vegetable Growers Association meeting and the Wisconsin State Cranberry Growers Association meeting. The screening program is made possible by philanthropic support from the Auction of Champions Fund a Need program.
Physicians scheduled to work at the screenings include Dr. Jennifer Tang and Dr. Tyler Conway. For more information on the screening, call the National Farm Medicine Center at 1-800-662-6900.
