WISCONSIN RAPIDS — Derrick Schmidt scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds to help the Stratford boys basketball team to a hard-fought 32-30 victory over Wisconsin Rapids Assumption in a low-scoring Marawood Conference South Division game Thursday at Assumption High School.
Stratford led 19-13 at halftime and was able to hold on at the end to win by a basket.
The Tigers are now 9-7 overall and 5-4 in the Marawood South, and Assumption falls to 9-8 and 6-4 in the conference.
Stratford’s win, combined with Auburndale’s victory over Pittsville and Marathon’s win against Wausau Newman Catholic, resulted in Marathon taking the Marawood South title.
Ethan Nagel added eight points for Stratford.
The Tigers’ next game is Tuesday at home against Pittsville.
