MARSHFIELD — UW-Marshfield Wood County is set to offer courses in digital design, printmaking, and sculpture. These semester-long courses run Jan. 25 – May 12. Each is a three-credit course open to degree-seeking, college-bound students and nondegree/special students: community members and professionals.
Digital Imaging and Design (ART 216)
This introductory course is an exploration of photography, text, and the digital image. It presents theme-based projects, lectures, and demonstrations focused on learning Adobe Creative Suite: Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign. Whether you are a novice seeking to enrich your personal creativity, in a career where you are interested in enhancing your business communication skills, or a student interested in developing a portfolio for transfer to an art program, this course could be right for you.
Instructor: Jason Cole, illustrator/designer and educator, master’s degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the College for Creative Studies in Detroit. ART 216 begins Monday, Jan. 25, and meets Monday and Wednesdayevenings, 5:30-8 p.m.
Introduction to Printmaking (ART 141)
This course teaches skills in painting and drawing through working with a variety of print processes such as etching, relief, monoprint, and solar plate as well as experimenting with alternative processes in the creation of unique works of art. Students will learn about the history and development of printmaking through lecture, demonstrations, and projects. Access to a well-equipped studio and most supplies — inks, plates, and paper — are included in the studio fee.
ART 141 begins Tuesday, Jan. 26, and meets Tuesday and Thursday mornings, 9:30 a.m. – noon.
Three-Dimensional Design (ART 112)
Art 112 is an introductory course in creating three-dimensional sculptural objects. Long before the current trend to “upcycle,” artists have been scavenging for materials they could transform and recycle into unique works of art. Learn to transform mundane materials into sculptural pieces and installations through individual and group projects.
ART 112 begins Tuesday, Jan. 26, and meets Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, 1:30-4 p.m.
