UW-Marshfield/Wood County men’s basketball wins opener of home tournament

MARSHFIELD – The University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County men’s basketball team will play for the title at its annual UW-Marshfield Classic after beating UW-Washington County 85-73 on Friday night.

The Marauders (3-6) will play Gogebic Community College (Mich.) in the championship game at 2 p.m. Saturday. Gogebic beat UW-Fond du Lac 86-76 in the other semifinal.

Fond du Lac and Washington County will play in the third-place game at noon.

Josh Hennes scored 17 points, and Bryce DeSmet and Joe Estrict each added 15 points for the Marauders.

Three others also scored in double figures for UW-Marshfield. Hunter Busse had 13 points, and Ryan Paul and Max Opelt each had 10 for the Marauders.
