Quick start pushes Marathon past Stratford boys basketball

STRATFORD — Preston Wirkus poured in 26 points to lead Marathon to a 57-38 victory over Stratford in a Marawood Conference South Division boys basketball game Tuesday night at Stratford High School.
The Tigers lost their third-straight game and drop to 6-6 overall and 2-3 in the Marawood South. Marathon moves to 9-1 overall and remains in first place in the conference at 5-0.
Marathon surged out to a 33-16 lead at halftime and held on from there.
Ethan Nagel scored 15 points to top Stratford.
Stratford hosts Northland Lutheran on Friday.
