Los Pinguos to return to LuCille Tack Center
For Hub City Times
SPENCER — Los Pinguos brought their music to Spencer seven years ago, making the LuCille Tack Center for the Arts explode with Argentine tango, salsa, flamenco, and mambo music. After such a powerful performance, the Tack Center’s Programming Committee decided to act on the many requests from audience members and include the band in the 2015-2016 performance season. Los Pinguos shall entertain world music aficionados on Friday, Jan. 15, at 7:30 p.m.
Originally from Buenos Aires, Los Pinguos — the penguins — feature a mixture of Latin rhythms performed on Spanish guitars; a Cuban tres; Peruvian cajon, a drum box; and harmonizing vocals. The band’s music can be described as Argentine folk fusion and features an exciting breadth of world influences.
“For me,” said lead singer Adrian Buono, “the kind of music and sound we have, it’s what people like because it’s unique.” It does not matter if people do not understand the language that the songs are sung in as Buono added, “The energy and sound is what it’s all about.”
Los Pinguos have recorded 10 CDs and appeared on three of the famous Putumayo World Music compilation albums. They have performed worldwide in places such as India, Bali, Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, the Netherlands, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Canada, and throughout the United States. Los Pinguos’ music has appeared in TV shows, movies, and at a Sundance Film Festival event with Suzanne Vega. While not touring or working in the recording studio, the band resides in Los Angeles.
Reserved seat tickets for this performance are available through the box office at the LuCille Tack Center, 300 School St., Spencer, Wednesday or Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; by calling 715-659-4499; or at lucilletackcenter.com.
