STOUGHTON – The Marshfield wrestling team went 1-4 at the Stoughton Duals Invitational on Saturday at Stoughton High School.
The Tigers lost to Evansville 37-31 and Stoughton, the No. 2 ranked team in the state Division 1 rankings, 60-12, before beating Elkhorn 40-36. Marshfield lost its final two duals, 47-25 to Fennimore and 36-25 to Madison La Follette.
Noah Hertel went 5-0 at 138 pounds and Anthony Kanable finished 4-1 at 132 for the Tigers.
One of Kanable’s four wins came against Fennimore’s Alston Nutter, who won the Division 3 120-pound state championship last season, finishing 50-1.
“We have a young team with eight freshmen in the starting lineup and we definitely got better in every match,” Marshfield coach Jackson Hein said.
Marshfield will host Rhinelander on Thursday in a nonconference dual meet.
