WISCONSIN RAPIDS — The Mid-State Technical College Board of Directors authorized $10,360,732 for the 2015-16 property tax levy in its regularly scheduled meeting held Monday evening. Mid-State’s tax rate will remain relatively unchanged from the previous year.
Mid-State’s tax rate will remain constant at 83 cents per $1,000. The total tax on a $100,000 home will be $83.44, just eight cents more than the previous year.
The college’s Board of Directors is required to certify the tax levy for the current fiscal year and notify municipalities by Oct. 31. Technical college tax rates are based on equalized value within the college district rather than the municipalities’ and taxpayers’ assessed value. The valuation of Mid-State’s district increased 2 percent to $12.4 billion.
Mid-State’s levy is still only half of what it was two years ago when taxpayers benefited from the state’s investment of $406 million in Wisconsin Technical College System annual property tax relief.
