MARATHON — Marathon wrapped up its first outright Marawood Conference football championship since 1981 on Friday night with a 42-6 win over Auburndale in the two teams’ final regular-season game of the season.
Marathon improves to 8-1 and finishes the Marawood slate with an unblemished 7-0 record as it heads into the WIAA playoffs in Division 6. The Raiders have shared three Marawood titles since last winning it outright in 1981, most recently in 2013.
Auburndale finishes its season with a 3-6 record and a 2-5 mark in the conference after dropping its final three games. The Apaches will miss the postseason for the first time since 2011.
