MARSHFIELD —  24-year-old Melvin Dunomes will be charged with multiple offenses after police reported seizing 80 grams of high grade heroin during a traffic stop. The arrest was made by the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department Special Investigations Unit and Marshfield Police Department, according to a release from the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department.

“The traffic stop concluded a long-term heroin trafficking investigation. The amount of heroin seized reflects the problems both communities (Wausau and Marshfield) are experiencing with the ongoing heroin epidemic spreading across Wisconsin. The number of heroin overdoses and deaths is on the rise in both communities. The heroin seized amounts to approximately 1,600 doses. The street value of that amount is estimated at $80,000,” the release said.

Dunomes is in custody at the Marathon County Jail and will be charged with several offenses, including possession of heroin with intent to deliver, maintaining a drug trafficking place, and parole violations.

Dunomes is slated to appear in Marathon County court on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015. We will update this story as more information becomes available.
