Brad Bauer Community Tournament raises over $8,300 for Spencer organizations
By Becky Gorst
SPENCER — The Brad Bauer Memorial Weekend was created 13 years ago to memorialize a Spencer citizen taken too soon. Brad Bauer had deep roots in the Spencer community as a lifelong citizen giving back as a coach, mentor, and volunteer. Bauer’s friends and family worked to create the Brad Bauer Memorial Weekend as a way to give back to the community he loved so much.
This year’s softball tournament was held Aug. 14-16 and was organized by a local group of volunteers and staffed by individuals from the Spencer Kids Group; Spencer Youth Football, Baseball, and Wrestling; Music Club; Spencer Skate Park; and Historical Society. Despite the weather, proceeds topped $8,300. Funds were split based on volunteer hours worked. The following list shows how the funds were allocated.
—Music Club: $500, Senior Music Club and equipment.
—Spencer Skate Park: $70.
