Marshfield girls tennis knocks off Wausau East in WVC finale

Haessly-Serchen roll at No. 1 doubles for Tigers

MARSHFIELD — The Marshfield girls tennis team wrapped up its regular-season dual meet schedule with a 4-3 win over Wausau East in Wisconsin Valley Conference action Thursday at Boson Courts.

Marshfield ends the WVC dual meet schedule with a 4-2 record.

The Tigers’ No. 1 doubles team of Olivia Haessly and Kessa Schreiner rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 victory to finish the dual meet season in the Valley with a 5-1 record. The other three Marshfield wins all came in hard-fought three-set matches.

Cassie Strebe won at No. 3 singles, Krishna Patel and Toni Schmitt won at No. 2 doubles, and Tylene Dierickx and Hailey Tobin won at No. 3 doubles with three-set victories.

Marshfield will compete in the Wisconsin Valley Conference Tournament on Oct. 1 at Wausau East and West high schools. The Tigers enter the tournament two points behind Wausau East for second place in the conference standings.

Singles: 1. Sami Miles (WE) def. Ashley Schultz 6-3, 6-0; 2. Sydney Blaskowski (WE) def. Hanah Gadke 6-4, 6-3; 3. Cassie Strebe (MAR) def. Sara Gliniecki 6-4, 2-6, 7-5; 4. Leah Blaskowski (WE) def. Nicole Kivela 6-2, 6-0.

Doubles: 1. Olivia Haessly-Kessa Schreiner (MAR) def. Liddy McDonald-Cassidy Kathenberger 6-0, 6-0; 2. Krishna Patel-Toni Schmitt (MAR) def. Chloe Watbog-Quinn Lodhutie 2-6, 6-2, 6-3; 3. Tylene Dierickx-Hailey Tobin (MAR) def. Nadin Bauman-Benna Steigl 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.

Records: Wausau East 4-2 Wisconsin Valley Conference; Marshfield 4-2 WVC.
