Tigers improve to 4-4-2 with nonconference win over Holmen

MARSHFIELD — Luke McCann scored four times to lift the Marshfield boys soccer team to a 5-1 nonconference win over Holmen on Saturday at Griese Park.

The win is the Tigers’ third in a row and pushes their record back to .500 at 4-4-2. Holmen falls to 7-2.

Hunter McManus scored on an assist from Leo Steiner 4:39 into the game for Marshfield, and McCann added a goal on a penalty kick 8 minutes later to put the Tigers up 2-0.

McCann scored again 35 seconds into the second half on an assist from Klaus Friedli, and added a pair of goals in a 51-second span midway through the half to complete the scoring for the Tigers.

Avery Wellens assists on McCann’s final two goals.

“It was a good game today. Boys are understanding more and more how to play as a unit,” Marshfield coach Steve McCann said. “Even when some of the passes aren’t executed correctly, they are looking to do the right thing.”

Marshfield plays at Wausau East on Tuesday and at Wausau West on Thursday.
