Stratford cross country sweeps team titles at home “The Bear” Invitational

Miner second in girls race, Geissinger third for Stratford boys

STRATFORD — Johnelle Miner was second in the girls race and John Geissinger took third in the boys race to lead the Stratford cross country teams to victories at the 2015 Stratford “The Bear” Invitational on Monday at Frey Field.

Anna Buchberger of Marathon won the girls race in 20:52.7, 11 ½ seconds ahead of Miner. Macie Schillinger took fifth (21:46.4), and Kaylee Hollatz was ninth (22:38.8) to put three Stratford runners in top nine. The Tigers had 44 points, 20 better than second-place Mosinee.

Auburndale was third, Spencer took sixth, and each had a top-10 finisher. Isabella Jewell was sixth for the Apaches (21:56.9), and Nadia King took seventh for the Rockets (22:27.9).

The Stratford boys also finished with 44 points, 16 better than Marathon. Auburndale was sixth, and Spencer had an incomplete squad with only four runners.

Joshua Langteau of Athens won the boys race in 17:21.6, 29 seconds in front of Marathon’s Xavier Lechleitner. Geissinger was third in 18:11.9 to lead Stratford.

Josh Guyer was seventh (18:55.0), and Cade Lehman took 10th (19:04.0) to help lift the Tigers to the team title.

Carver Empey took 12th in 19:16.3 for Auburndale’s top finish. Bobby Pilz led Spencer by taking 29th in 21:02.2.

Stratford, Auburndale, and Spencer will all compete at the Smiley Invitational in Wausau on Saturday.
