Columbus Catholic volleyball wins Loyal Quad, goes 1-5 at Diocesan Tournament

Dons open Cloverbelt East season Tuesday at Loyal/Granton

The Marshfield Columbus Catholic volleyball team got its season underway by playing in a pair of tournaments last week.

The Dons went 3-0 and did not lose a game to win the Loyal/Granton Quadrangular on Thursday, Aug. 27.

Columbus beat Rib Lake 25-17, 25-22; Loyal/Granton 25-23, 25-14; and Osseo-Fairchild 25-21, 25-22.

Jennifer Reigel had 48 assists, Kendra Baierl had 32 kills and 10 blocks, Celine Scholin added 24 kills, Maddie Desmet had 12 service aces, and Abby Baierl had 35 digs in the three wins.

The Dons finished 1-5 at the Diocesan Tournament last Saturday in Chippewa Falls.

Columbus defeated Stevens Point Pacelli 25-21, 25-21 and lost to Wisconsin Rapids Assumption (25-19, 25-13), Chippewa Falls McDonell (25-23, 19-25, 15-12), La Crosse Aquinas (25-21, 25-17), Wausau Newman Catholic (25-14, 25-15), and Eau Claire Regis (25-15, 26-24).

Reigel had 96 assists, Abby Baierl and Sierra Litwaitis led the team with 31 digs apiece, Kendra Baierl had 42 kills and eight aces, and Desmet had a team-high nine aces for the Dons.
