For Hub City Times

MARSHFIELD — On Monday, Aug. 17, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Marshfield Clinic Center for Community Outreach and Marshfield Area Coalition for Youth (MACY) will be hosting a Marshfield Area Parent Network presentation on Suicide Prevention – Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) at Wildwood Station 1800 S. Roddis Ave., Marshfield.

Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) focuses on training community gatekeepers to recognize when a person is exhibiting suicidal behavior. Attendees will learn the warning signs, clues, and suicidal communication of people in trouble, much like learning the fundamentals of CPR to save lives. In addition, hear about the crisis intervention process as a tool to support someone in need.

This event is supported by Mike’s Run, a run/walk hosted in partnership with Marshfield Clinic to support mental health awareness.

Guest speakers at the event will be Jennifer Smith, a health educator at the Marshfield Clinic Center for Community Outreach; Nikki Podevels, a program assistant at the Marshfield Clinic Center for Community Outreach; and Katie Czys, a legal services supervisor for Wood County Unified Services. The program facilitator will be Dr. Valentina Pachecho from the  Marshfield Clinic psychiatry and behavioral health department.

Registration deadline for the event is Aug.12. To register, contact the Marshfield Clinic Center for Community Outreach by email at [email protected] or call 715-221-8400. There will be free dinner and childcare at the event.
