Participate in 5K on July 11 to help ‘Run Over Hunger’
MARSHFIELD — Be a superhero on Saturday, July 11, 2015, and walk, run (or fly) to help “Run Over Hunger” at United Way’s annual 5K event at Griese Park starting at 9 a.m. The event will benefit the Nutrition On Weekends program, which supplies supplemental weekend food packs to area children facing food insecurities in their homes. In addition to the 5K, there will also be a half-mile children’s fun run.
The event is a themed race, so be sure to wear your superhero gear. Awards will be given to the best dressed male and female superheroes.
The 5K is a chip-timed event, and awards will be given to top male and female finishers in six different age groups. Though the 5K is timed, individuals interested in walking are also encouraged to participate.
Registration for the 5K is currently available online and by mail. To register, visit marshfieldareaunitedway.org/5K.html to find a link to the online registration or to download a printable registration form. Registration will also be available the day of the event starting at 8 a.m. The cost to register in the 5K is $25 until June 30. After the June 30, the registration fee will be $30.
The fun run will begin at 8:30 a.m. Registration for the fun run will be on the day of the event only, also starting at 8 a.m. The cost to participate is a donation of a nonperishable food item to the Nutrition On Weekends program. The following items are current needs for the program: jelly, granola bars, Cheerios, Raisin Bran, Life cereal, dried fruit, pretzels, Goldfish crackers, animal crackers, Jell-O cups, and fruit and applesauce cups.
