Maple Avenue project update: June 3, 2015
Phase 1: Maple Avenue from Veterans Parkway to Fourth Street and Third Street from Maple Avenue to Central Avenue
By Tom Turchi
Marshfield City Engineer
Sewer and water main has been installed on Maple Avenue from Fourth Street to Second Street, including Third Street from Central Avenue to Maple Avenue. Earth Inc. has finished installing laterals on Maple Avenue from Third Street to Fourth Street and is continuing to work towards Second Street. Earth has installed the storm sewer from Fourth Street to Third Street and is progressing towards Second Street.
Frontier has to relocate phone lines at the intersection of Third Street, which should be completed on June 3. Grading, underdrain, and placement of base materials will shadow the installation of the stormsewer. Earth will be installing the storm sewer on Third Street at the alley and also plans to begin the water main installation from Second Street to Veterans Parkway, both on June 3. Merkel, a subcontractor for Earth, will begin installing conduit for the new street lighting systems.
City officials met with Frontier June 2 and discussed the proposed utility relocations for this project. Frontier stated that their materials will not be available until June 28. Conflicts in the intersection of Second Street and Maple Avenue are still pending resolution, and additional work is needed to resolve the conflicts.
We Energies are currently replacing the gas mains on this project.
It is anticipated that concrete paving will take approximately three weeks and is expected to begin about mid- to late-June. Trierweiler Construction is a subcontractor to Earth and will be the paving contractor for Maple Avenue. Paving of the main traffic lanes will take place with two placement operations. Curb/gutter and sidewalk placement will take place following mainline paving.
