AMHERST — Auburndale scored a pair of runs in the fifth inning and added an insurance run in the seventh, and that was all pitcher Paul Willfahrt needed as the Apaches edged Amherst 3-1 in a WIAA Division 3 baseball quarterfinal on Tuesday.
Amherst (6-14) scored once in the first inning, but that was all it could get against Willfahrt, who allowed just four hits and three walks while striking out three in the complete-game effort.
Auburndale had just one hit, an RBI double by Wyatt Weiler, but it was enough as Amherst pitchers walked six. Pinch runners Coy Krings and Logan Willfahrt scored the other two runs for the Apaches.
Auburndale (8-10) moves on to a Division 3 regional semifinal at Stevens Point Pacelli (19-6) at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bukolt Park in Stevens Point.
