SPENCER — Marathon’s Bria Jahnke held Spencer to just three hits and struck out eight as the Raiders defeated Spencer 9-1 in a WIAA Division 3 softball regional final Saturday at Spencer High School.
Spencer pitcher Macie Weber walked two in each of the first two innings, and all four Marathon runners came around to score to push the Raiders out to a 4-1 lead.
Marathon added single runs in the third and fourth innings and put the game away when Natasha Hanke drilled a bases-loaded double to clear the bases in the sixth.
Weber finished with seven strikeouts and six walks. Six of the nine runs were earned as Spencer (21-4) had four errors in the field.
Marisa Johnson, Mandie Schultz, and Lexi Baehr had singles for the Rockets, and Johnson scored the team’s only run in the first inning.
Marathon (19-5) moves on to a Division 3 sectional semifinal on Tuesday against Oconto (14-8) at Gillett. The sectional final is at Marathon on Thursday, and the winner moves on to the 2015 WIAA State Softball Tournament in Madison on June 11-13.
