Johnson, Reckner each have two hits for Rockets

CHIPPEWA FALLS — The Spencer softball team finished the regular season on a high note, shutting out Chippewa Falls McDonell 6-0 in a nonconference matchup Friday.

The Rockets (21-3) were ranked No. 10 in this week’s state poll in Division 3 after winning the Cloverbelt Conference East Division, and McDonell (17-5) was ranked No. 6 in Division 4 after tying Thorp for the Cloverbelt West crown.

Spencer scored one run in the third inning and added five more in the fifth to pull out the win.

Marisa Johnson and Kallie Reckner each had two hits, and Brooke Kettleborough, Macie Weber, and Lindsay Vaughan had RBIs for the Rockets.

“This is the exact kind of game you want going into the postseason,” Spencer coach Jason Gorst said. “We came out and played very clean against a very good team.”

Weber tossed the complete-game shutout, striking out seven, walking three, and allowing four hits.

Spencer will host the winner of the Loyal/Granton-Auburndale game in a WIAA Division 3 regional semifinal on Wednesday.
