Marshfield boys golf fifth at final leg of 2015 Wisconsin Valley Conference tournament

Tigers finish fifth in overall team standings

WAUSAU — Marshfield finished fifth with a score of 355 and dropped to fifth place in the final standings after the seventh and final meet of the 2015 Wisconsin Valley Conference Boys Golf Tournament on Friday at Wausau Country Club.

Derek Michalski cemented his spot in the individual standings for the Tigers as he shot an 80 to finish fifth on Friday and ended up sixth in the overall standings to earn second-team all-Wisconsin Valley Conference honors.

Zach Shortess struggled to a 95 on Friday but still ended up 10th in the overall standings to give Marshfield two second-team all-conference performers.

Brandon Nikolai and Jordan Schlinsog each shot 90s to round out the Tigers’ scoring as they finished with 355, five behind D.C. Everest. The two teams entered the final leg of the seven-meet tournament tied for fourth place.

Stevens Point won the meet with a score of 317, 12 shots ahead of Wausau East. Wausau West was third with a 347. Those three finished in the same order in the final team standings.

Wausau East’s Matt Tuman earned medalist honors with a 76, one shot better than Stevens Point’s Cristian McDonald. Tuman ended up as the individual champion for the season, and Derek Tomczik of D.C. Everest placed second. Other first-team all-conference finishers were Taylor Thomas and McDonald of Stevens Point and Josh Yang of Wausau West.
