Rockets now 13-0 in Cloverbelt East

SPENCER — The Spencer softball team clinched the Cloverbelt Conference East Division championship with a doubleheader sweep of Neillsville on Tuesday at Spencer High School.

The Rockets beat Neillsville 2-0 and 7-2 to improve to 19-3 overall and 13-0 in the Cloverbelt East. Neillsville is now 9-11 and 7-7 in the conference. Spencer’s final conference game is Thursday at home against Colby.

“I am extremely proud of this team,” said Spencer coach Jason Gorst, who grabbed the 100th win of his coaching career with the second victory Tuesday. “They are a joy to coach. All the hard work in practice and the offseason is paying off.

“Our defense was stellar tonight. Brooke Kettleborough was making crazy plays in center, and Kallie Reckner had some clutch hitting in the No. 9 spot.”

Macie Weber tossed a two-hit shutout in the opener, striking out five and walking five. She also had three of Spencer’s five hits. Marisa Johnson and Lexi Baehr scored the Rockets’ runs.

In Game 2 Reckner went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, and Kettleborough and Mandie Schultz each had two hits for Spencer.

Weber threw a complete game again in the second game, striking out five and giving up four hits.
