Russell Robert Snortheim, 52, of Marshfield, died peacefully on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at the House of the Dove, Marshfield, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Town of McMillan. Burial will take place in St. Peter’s Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 54 of Marshfield and serving as pallbearers will be Craig, Miranda, Marissa, Jared, Macie, Jenna, and Sara Snortheim and Elizabeth and Braedon Kroening. The visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Rembs Funeral Home and on Saturday from 10:00 am until service time at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.

Russell was born on January 22, 1963 in Marshfield to Norman and Jarlene (Weber) Snortheim. Russ was a 1981 graduate of Marshfield Senior High School and went on to attend the University of Wisconsin, Madison where he obtained his degree in chemistry in 1985. After college Russell served in the United States Navy as an air traffic controller in Key West, Florida and served his country in Desert Storm. After his honorable discharge, Russ returned home and worked at Evergreen Manufacturing, Weyerhaeuser and at the time of his diagnosis, Protect Door. After Russell returned to Marshfield and settled, he married Brenda Kroening on May 31, 2003 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.

Russell loved his Wisconsin Badgers. He attended every home football game with his best friend and Badger buddy, Gordy Moen. They enjoyed many football and basketball games and looked forward to each season with renewed enthusiasm. Russell also enjoyed wood working and taking long car rides to wherever the road took him. Russell’s primary love was doting on his beloved daughter, “Sammy”. He was the “best daddy in the world”. He also loved being a step-father to Ehren, whom he was extremely proud of. Russell had a strong Christian faith and took great pride in serving roles as a past president and elder at St. Peter’s Church. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his church family.

Russell is survived by his wife, Brenda (Kroening) Snortheim, daughter, Samantha Snortheim, and step-son, Ehren Simonsmeier. He is also survived by his father, Norman and Linda (Pagelsdorf) Snortheim, brothers, Randy and Suzanne (Hahn) Snortheim, Doug and Susan (Willfahrt) Snortheim, Daniel and Cindy (Gehrke) Snortheim, a step-brother, Chad and Cindy (Bruesewitz) Pagelsdorf, in-laws, Ronald and Diane (Linzmeier) Kroening, Jeff and Richelle (Patzke) Kroening and a sister-in-law, Renee (Kroening) Carter. He is further survived by his nieces, Miranda, Macie, Marissa, Jenna, Sara Snortheim, Elizabeth Kroening and Ciera Pagelsdorf and nephews, Craig and Jared Snortheim, Braedon Kroening, Caleb and Cyler Pagelsdorf and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Russell was predeceased by his beloved mother, Jarlene (Weber) Snortheim and paternal grandparents, Agnes and Ole Snortheim and Frank and Elsie Weber.

The family will designate a memorial in Russell’s name at a later date.
