WISCONSIN RAPIDS — The Marshfield girls soccer team was held to four shots on a goal and was shut out at Wisconsin Rapids on Tuesday night, losing 2-0 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference matchup.

Jamie Vanderhei scored 10 minutes before halftime, and Veronica Berger added a goal with 11:18 left in the game to push Rapids (7-5-2, 6-3-1 Wisconsin Valley Conference) to the victory.

Andrea Carolfi had four saves in goal for the Tigers (5-12-1, 2-7 WVC), and Chani Pulchinski saved all four shots in goal for Rapids.

“Rapids has a tough defense, and we had very few opportunities,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “The ones we had we could not capitalize on. There is a reason they are averaging about one goal on defense in the conference.

“Our same nemesis just hangs around as we struggle to get goals this year. The nice thing is the girls play hard and never quit or stop giving all they have.”

Marshfield hosts Merrill on Thursday at 5 p.m. at Griese Park.
