Columbus Catholic boys, Auburndale girls win titles at Edgar Track Invite

Dons’ Alexandra Hutchison named Girls MVP of meet

EDGAR — Marshfield Columbus Catholic’s Alexandra Hutchison set a new meet record in the 200 meters and also won the 100 meters to earn Girls’ Most Valuable Player honors at the Dr. H.A. Schulz Track & Field Invitational on Monday at Edgar High School.

Hutchison won the 100 in 12.76 seconds and the 200 in a meet-record 26.14 seconds, breaking a record of 26.21 set by Kristen Barr of Wausau Newman Catholic in 2004.

Auburndale won the girls team title, and Columbus Catholic came in third. The Columbus Catholic boys took first place with Auburndale third.

Winning titles for the Auburndale girls were the 3,200 relay team of Abby Bauer, Hannah Dorshorst, Kali Karl, and Katie Leck (10:46.25); Cassie Mitchell in the 100 hurdles (18.99); Karl in the 800 (2:38.05); the 400 throwers relay team of Breu, Sam Jensen, Ana Jepsen, and Josie Stoflet (57.44); and Sylviann Momont in the long jump (14-9).

Kendra Baierl also won the high jump with a leap of 4-10 for the Dons’ girls.

Lee Jepsen and Matt Lang each won a pair of events for the Auburndale boys. Jepsen won the 100 in 11.52 and the 200 in 23.64, and Lang won the discus (130-6) and the shot put (48-11 ½).

Winning events for the Columbus Catholic boys were the 800 relay team of Farid Torbey, David Nielsen, Leo Pittsley and, Christian Payant (1:36.13) and Payant in the long jump (18-9 ¾).

Loyal’s Morgan Malm won the 110 hurdles (15.52), the 300 hurdles (40.64), and the high jump (6-0) to earn the Boys MVP honor.

Columbus and Auburndale will both compete in the Pittsville Invitational on Thursday for their final regular-season meets of the season.

Columbus is at the Cloverbelt Conference Meet at Gilman, and Auburndale will compete at the Marawood Conference Meet at Pittsville on May 19.
