MARSHFIELD — The Marshfield Columbus Catholic baseball team’s losing streak reached seven-straight as Greenwood ripped out 16 hits in a 20-1 victory over the Dons in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game Tuesday at Hackman Field.

Greenwood scored 13 runs in the first inning against Columbus Catholic pitcher Kienan McIntee. Numerous errors led to seven unearned runs in the inning for the Indians and knocked McIntee out of the game.

“It was a long week. We went 0-6 for the week and lost some tough games,” Columbus Catholic coach Joe Seitz said. “We started out making mistakes. They are a good hitting team, but we can’t continue to kill our pitchers’ arms by not making the routine plays. It was tough tonight.”

Greenwood pushed the lead to 20-0 as two more Dons errors and three walks led to a six-run fourth inning against reliever Charles Payant.

The Dons (4-10, 4-8 Cloverbelt East) scored their only run in the bottom of the fourth. Tyler Fuerlinger reached on an error, and after another error he scored on a sacrifice fly by John Edwards.

Logan Johnson gave up just one hit and walked two while striking out seven to earn the win for Greenwood (6-8, 6-6 Cloverbelt East).

After a 4-3 start to the season, the Dons have fallen on hard times. With four games left, to be played in eight days starting Friday at home against Owen-Withee, they have a short time to turn things around.

“We’re going to have to get our minds right. That’s the first thing,” Seitz said. “Hopefully, with repetition we’ll start making those routine plays. If we can start building off making the routine plays and not giving the teams extra outs, we can build off of that.”
