MARSHFIELD — The Marshfield Columbus Catholic baseball team dropped a pair of tight games to Wisconsin Rapids Assumption in a nonconference doubleheader Saturday at Hackman Field.

Assumption scored three times in the top of the eighth inning to win the first game 11-8 and rallied with three runs in the top of the seventh to beat the Dons 6-4 in Game 2.

Columbus Catholic is now 4-8 overall while Assumption improves to 7-7.

In the opener Assumption led 6-0 after 3 ½ innings before the Dons rallied. Columbus scored four runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, and three in the sixth to tie the game 8-8.

Tyler Fuerlinger had three hits and three RBIs, and Kienan McIntee and Billy Young had two hits apiece for the Dons.

The second game went the opposite way with Columbus jumping out to a 3-0 lead before the Royals rallied to tie it.

Columbus scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to go back ahead 4-3, but Assumption scored three times in the top of the seventh and held the Dons scoreless in the bottom to complete the sweep.

Fuerlinger, McIntee, and Jeremy Binder each had two hits for the Dons in Game 2.

Columbus Catholic returns to action Tuesday at home against Greenwood. The game, at Hackman Field, will begin at 5 p.m.
