‘Stamp Out Hunger’ set for May 9 in Marshfield
Event is largest single-day food drive nationwide
MARSHFIELD — The National Association of Letter Carriers “Stamp Out Hunger” Food Drive is the largest nationwide one-day food drive. Each year United Way and the Marshfield Post Office partner to collect and distribute nonperishable food items to local pantries. This year the food drive will be held on Saturday, May 9.
The food drive’s timing is crucial. Food banks and pantries often receive the majority of their donations during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday seasons. By springtime many pantries are depleted, entering the summer low on supplies at a time when many school breakfast and lunch programs are not available to children in need.
Participating in this year’s Letter Carrier Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is simple. Just leave a nonperishable food donation in a bag by your mailbox on Saturday, May 9, for your letter carrier to pick up on that day.
Volunteers are needed to help on May 9 from 3 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. Anyone interested in volunteering should contact Soup or Socks at 715-387-1796. For more information or any questions, you can also contact Marshfield Area United Way at 715-384-9992 or visit marshfieldareaunitedway.org.
