Rockets blast seven home runs in victories

By Paul Lecker

SPENCER — The Spencer softball team ripped seven home runs to sweep a doubleheader from Marshfield Columbus Catholic, winning 16-3 and 12-2 on Thursday at Spencer High School.

The Rockets (13-2, 9-0 Cloverbelt Conference East Division) have now won 13 games in a row heading into a tournament at Gilman on Saturday where they will play Marathon and Stratford.

Macie Weber struck out the first six batters of the opener and earned the win on the mound.

Spencer scored 11 runs in the first inning of Game 1. Weber and Lexi Baehr had homers in the win.

In the second game, Weber, Mandie Schultz, and Baehr hit home runs on consecutive pitches. Baehr, a freshman, hit the first two home runs of her career in the twinbill. Weber added another, and Brooke Kettleborough hit one as well for the Rockets.

“It’s fun to see a player hit their first home run,” Spencer coach Jason Gorst said. “Lexi is having a very impressive season.

“Macie has been pretty dominant as a pitcher, but Marisa Johnson and Ellayna Lyon are really proving we have some depth at that position.”
