ACO Wisconsin State Cornhole Championships come to Marshfield
MARSHFIELD — It has been called many things — corn toss, bean bag, bean toss, soft horseshoes — but for this tournament, the game is passionately referred to as cornhole.
Cornhole is similar to horseshoes except you use wooden boxes called cornhole platforms and corn bags instead of horseshoes and metal stakes. Contestants take turns pitching their corn bags at the cornhole platform until a contestant reaches the score of 21 points. A corn bag in the hole scores 3 points while one on the platform scores 1 point. Scoring can be swift, and the lead may change hands several times in a match before the winner is decided. If you can aim and toss a corn bag 30 feet, you can master the game of cornhole.
The first ever Wisconsin Cornhole Championships tournament will be held on Friday and Saturday, May 29 and 30, at the Marshfield Fairgrounds Park, 405 E. 17th St. in Marshfield, with over $1,000 in cash and prizes. Entry into the singles competition also allows you to play in the doubles competition with one entry fee of $20, plus a small service fee, and you do not need to be a member of the American Cornhole Organization (ACO) to compete. Individuals and teams of all ages and skill levels are invited to participate. Beginners are welcome to try to become the state champions as well.
