MERRILL — The Marshfield boys won one event and finished sixth, and the girls team had two runner-up finishes and took fourth at the 2015 Wisconsin Valley Conference Track Relays on Tuesday at Merrill High School.

Stevens Point swept the team titles at the annual event.

The Tigers boys’ lone win came in the triple jump where Will Spindler, Nate Beyer, and Chris Pahl combined for jumps of 115 feet, 6 ½ inches.

Tyler Peterson, John Wittman, and Andrew Gilkerson combined to take second in the shot put with tosses totaling 128-9 ½. Peterson was the top individual with a shot put of 50-8 ½.

Taking second for the Marshfield girls were the triple jump team of Martha Kupfer, Olivia Tierney, and Ana Jensen (95-11) and the 1,600 relay team of Dani Bender, Emma Boson, Alexa Aumann, and Kupfer (4:17.02).

“The girls stepped up tonight big time,” Marshfield girls coach Dan Akin said. “We have been battling a number of injuries this season, and we are still missing some key people. We hope to have our full lineup in time for regionals in three weeks. Until that time comes, we have to have efforts like we had tonight in order to be competitive.”

The Marshfield girls return to Merrill on Friday for the Otto Bacher Invitational while the boys team is off until May 15 at Wisconsin Dells.
