Tigers fall to 3-4 in Wisconsin Valley

By Paul Lecker

MARSHFIELD — Merrill scored three runs in the fifth inning and another in the sixth to pull past Marshfield 6-3 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference softball game Monday at the Marshfield Fairgrounds.

Marshfield led 3-2 after four innings but could not hold on as the Bluejays improved to 6-2 overall and 5-1 in the WVC, one-half game behind Stevens Point in the standings. Marshfield is now 6-5 and 3-4 in the Valley.

After Merrill took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, Lexi Dupee smacked a two-run home run in the bottom of the inning to tie the game for the Tigers.

Marshfield pulled ahead when Megan Donahue drove in Morgan Nordbeck on a single in the third.

Chelsey LaMonica had an RBI double, and two runners scored on a sacrifice fly by Brooke Bushor to push the Bluejays ahead for good in the fifth.

Megan Donahue suffered the loss for Marshfield. Only two of the six runs she gave up were earned, and she walked five and struck out 10.

Marshfield plays a nonconference game at Black River Falls on Tuesday.
