MARSHFIELD – A 20-year-old Loyal man is dead after his moped collided with a pickup truck driven by a 24-year-old Auburndale man, according to a release from the Marshfield Police Department.  The accident occurred at 5 p.m. Wednesday night on the 100 block of East Second Street.

According to the release, preliminary investigation shows that the man on the moped was travelling north from an alley and did not yield the right of way to the pickup driver, who was travelling west on East Second Street.

The moped driver was ejected from his vehicle and sustained a head injury.  He was transported to Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital by Marshfield Fire & Rescue where he died as a result of his injuries.  The moped driver was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, according to the release.

Police are not releasing the name of the victim pending the notification of his family. The crash is still under investigation.
