SPENCER — The Owen-Withee batters did not stand a chance against Spencer pitcher Macie Weber.

The junior right-hander struck out 13 of the 17 batters she faced in tossing her first career no-hitter and leading the Spencer softball team to an 11-0 win over Owen-Withee in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division matchup Thursday at Spencer High School.

Weber issued a walk with two outs in the first inning and again in the third and struck out the side three times in the five-inning complete-game effort as the Rockets improve to 5-2 overall and remain perfect at 3-0 in the Cloverbelt East.

“We’ve been able to pick up some solid wins against some pretty good teams,” Spencer coach Jason Gorst said. “I think we’ve been focused in every game, no matter the score, so that’s a positive. Macie’s pitching has been excellent, defensively we’re strong, and we’re really hitting the ball.”

Marisa Johnson and Lindsey Vaughan each doubled and scored in the first inning, and Johnson smacked a two-run homer in the second to put Spencer up 4-0.

The Rockets put the game away in the fourth, scoring seven times. Johnson led off the inning with her second home run of the game, Vaughan drove in a run with a single, Lexi Baehr had a two-run single, and Mandie Schultz had an RBI double to provide the damage.

Spencer smacked out 15 hits in all in just four team at-bats. All but two starters had a hit with Johnson going 4-for-4 and Schultz finishing 3-for-3.

“Tonight I thought we were very disciplined at the plate and made very good decisions up there,” Gorst said. “They had her (Owen-Withee pitcher Stephany Heggemeier) timed up, and they were able to sit back. Marisa Johnson, with the two home runs, and I thought there were a lot of quality at-bats in the game where we were very sharp at the plate.”

The Rockets’ next game is Tuesday at Loyal against Loyal/Granton.
