WESTON — D.C. Everest scored three runs in the first two innings and held off Marshfield the rest of the way, beating the Tigers 3-2 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference softball game Thursday at D.C. Everest High School.

Lauren Brinkman hit a two-out, two-run home run in the first inning, and Maggie Plaza had an RBI triple in the second to put D.C. Everest (5-4, 3-1 Wisconsin Valley Conference) up 3-0.

In the fourth Kayla Kluge had an RBI double to score Caitlyn Kozik to put Marshfield on the scoreboard.

Megan Donahue singled and scored in the sixth on a wild pitch to bring the Tigers within a run.

Marshfield threatened in the seventh but could not get the tying run across.

Mary Kloos reached on an error and moved to second on a bunt by Alyssa Ede. Jadey Nelson entered as a pinch runner and went to third on a groundout but was stranded as Melissa Roberts struck out looking.

Megan Donahue suffered the loss, giving up three hits, three runs, and five walks in six innings. She struck out nine.

“Megan pitched a very good game, just made a few mistakes early in the game, and it cost us,” Marshfield coach Mike Voss said. “Their pitcher did a good job keeping us off balance hitting. We had runners in position a few times but just could not come up with the big hit.”

Miranda Gajewski struck out eight to earn the complete-game win for Everest.

Marshfield (4-3, 1-3 Wisconsin Valley Conference) hosts Rhinelander at 4:30 p.m. Friday at the Marshfield Fairgrounds.
