STEVENS POINT — The Marshfield girls soccer team stuck with Stevens Point early, but an 11-minute stretch in the second half determined the outcome as the Panthers won 5-0 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference matchup Tuesday at the Portage County Youth Soccer Complex.

Marshfield’s defensive pressure kept the game scoreless until Abby Bohanski scored at the 27:20 mark to put Stevens Point up 1-0.

The Tigers started strong again in the second half until Point got its offense rolling.

Justice Menge scored 16 minutes into the second half and added another goal 5:34 later, and Bohanski finished off the scoring with a pair of goals barely a minute apart.

“We played very inspired soccer in the first half and basically shut Point down,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “McKayla Scheuer did outstanding work shutting down Bohanski, the leading scorer in the Valley.”

The Panthers outshot Marshfield 19-3 with Tigers goalkeeper Andrea Carolfi making 14 saves. Lindner praised the defensive efforts of Patty Jo Bloczynski, Emily Critelli, Charlotte Urban, and Amanda Feltz along with Carolfi.

“Andrea had her best varsity game of her career. We played with passion and gave it all we had. The effort was very noticeable. If we play like the first half the rest of the season, good things are in store for us.”

Stevens Point remains undefeated at 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference. Marshfield is now 2-3 and 0-2 in the conference.

Marshfield hosts Wisconsin Rapids at 5 p.m. Thursday at Griese Park.
