Columbus Catholic boys win Gilman Track Invitational

GILMAN — The Marshfield Columbus Catholic boys won five events and had four runner-up finishes to take the team title at the Gilman Track & Field Invitational on Thursday at Gilman High School.

Zech Kitzhaber won the 100 hurdles in 21.18 seconds, took second in the 300 hurdles in 49.58, and was third in the triple jump with a leap of 34 feet, 10 inches to lead the way for the Dons.

Also placing first for the Columbus boys were Farid Torbey in the high jump (5-8); Elijah Welsh in the shot put (40-8); Christian Payant in the 300 hurdles (45.83); and the 400 relay team of Leo Pittsley, David Nielsen, Zach Drexler, and Torbey (48.97).

Ben Behling had a pair of second-place finishes in the 800 (2:14.41) and the 1,600 (4:57.56), and Pittsley was second in the 200 (24.31) for Columbus.

Alexandra Hutchison took first place in three events for the Columbus Catholic girls, who finished sixth in the team standings.

Hutchison won the 100 (12.79), the 200 (26.14), and the 400 (1:00.55).
