MARSHFIELD — Marshfield had more shots on goal and corner kicks than Wausau West but was unable to take advantage of those opportunities and lost 3-0 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference girls soccer opener for both teams on Tuesday at Griese Park.
Natalie Lucht scored 10:36 into the game, and Tate Morice had a pair of goals in the second half to lift West (2-0 overall) to the victory.
Marshfield (1-2 overall) could not get any of its six shots into the net and were shut out for the second time this season.
“We had some decent shots on goal, but we haven’t found the finishing touch yet this year,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “We’re still trying to develop our finishing and the girls crashing the net hard to follow up on shots.
“Easy shots right to the hands of the goalie are not really a difficult challenge.”
Andrea Carolfi had two saves in goal for Marshfield.
Marshfield returns to action Friday when it hosts Chippewa Falls in a nonconference game at 5 p.m. at Griese Park.
