Wednesday, March 18
Marshfield man reports fraud
A 21-year-old Marshfield man reported he was in contact with an unknown person regarding a purchase through craigslist. The buyer stated he was from Texas, but the Marshfield man did not know his name or address.
On March 11 the Marshfield man received a check in the mail from the buyer with the amount the item was selling for plus additional money. The buyer stated he wanted the Marshfield man to wire the additional money to two other people, and if he did that, the Marshfield man would receive an extra $50.
The man cashed the check and sent the money to the people the buyer requested. On March 18 the Marshfield man’s bank notified him that the check was not real and that his account was locked. The man provided police the names and addresses where he sent the money to as well as his receipts.
Police assist possible identity theft victim
At 2:14 p.m. a 42-year-old Marshfield woman reported she had received a call from a payday loan lender asking her to confirm and approve an online loan that had been submitted in her name. The woman stated she had never applied for an account or a loan with that lender and was concerned that her personal information had been illegally obtained.
The loan lender informed the woman that to file a fraud complaint she needed to fill out the required paperwork on the company website and submit a police report for the company to investigate further. Marshfield police filled out the report as requested.
Thursday, March 19
Spencer woman reports stalking concerns
A 34-year-old Spencer woman came into the Marshfield Police Department at 12:21 p.m. to report stalking concerns. A 39-year-old Spencer man has been attempting to begin a relationship with the woman for the past two years. The woman has informed the man she is not interested in a relationship.
The man has ignored the woman’s wishes and engaged in stalking-type behavior. The man has left flowers and notes at the woman’s residence at least three times. On March 17 the man left a note on the woman’s deceased father’s grave.
The Spencer police chief is investigating and will issue the man a stalking warning letter. The woman wanted to inform Marshfield police of the man’s behavior as well. A Marshfield officer collected one of the notes and turned it over to a Spencer officer.
Friday, March 20
Marshfield police assist Chippewa County sheriffs
At 1:42 a.m. the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office requested Marshfield police assistance with obtaining a legal blood draw from a 37-year-old Gilman man that had been operating while under the influence and had been flown to St. Joseph’s Hospital by helicopter after he was involved in a one-vehicle crash.
Officers read the Informing the Accused to the man verbatim, but he did not respond since he was unconscious. A Chippewa County deputy spoke to the phlebotomist and requested the legal blood sample. The sample was turned over to Marshfield police, who packaged it and mailed it to the state crime lab.
Two men taken into custody on Maple Avenue
Police took a 43-year-old Marshfield man into custody on the 2200 block of S. Maple Ave. for a probation violation. The man was subsequently transported to Wood County Jail.
Police later returned to the same location and took a 28-year-old Marshfield man into custody for Domestic Disorderly Conduct. The 28-year-old was transported to the Marshfield Police Department, booked, and released after posting the required bond. Charges will be forwarded to the Wood County District Attorney for Domestic Disorderly Conduct.
Marshfield man picked up on probation hold
Police took a 47-year-old Marshfield man into custody on the 2200 block of N. Lincoln Ave. on a valid probation hold. Officers transported the man to the Marshfield Police Department, booked him, transported him to Wood County Jail, and released him to the jail staff’s care.
Saturday, March 21
Man jailed on probation hold following OWI
At 12:39 a.m. an officer observed a vehicle strike the raised median with its rear driver’s side tire as it turned southbound onto Central Avenue from Second Street. The officer performed a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, a 35-year-old Marshfield man, who identified himself by his Wisconsin driver’s license.
The man smelled of intoxicants but denied having anything to drink. The man performed standardized field sobriety tests poorly and refused a preliminary breath test. The officer arrested and cited the man for Operating While under the Influence, second offense.
The Informing the Accused was read to the man verbatim, and he refused a blood draw. After obtaining a search warrant, the man’s blood was drawn without incident. The man was booked at the Marshfield Police Department and then transported to Wood County Sheriff’s Office jail on a probation hold.
Vehicle keyed on 17th Street
A 40-year-old Marshfield man came into the Marshfield Police Department to report that his car had been keyed between 2 and 6 p.m. while it was parked on the 700 block of W. 17th St. Scratches were on the front and rear passenger sides of the vehicle. There are no suspects at this time.
Monday, March 23
Cat, miscellaneous items stolen from residence
Police responded at 4:04 p.m. to a report of a burglary. A 31-year-old Marshfield man stated that a 28-year-old Marshfield man and his girlfriend were staying at the 31-year-old’s residence and that he had told them they could no longer stay there. After the 31-year-old came home from work, multiple items were missing, including DVDs, clothing, cell phone chargers, and his cat. The 31-year-old suspected the 28-year-old took the items.
The 31-year-old stated that the 28-year-old and his girlfriend were homeless and that he did not know where they would go. Attempted phone contact with the 28-year-old was unsuccessful. Police checked possible locations of the suspect but could not find him. The 31-year-old stated he would contact police if he had more information on the suspect’s whereabouts.
Man arrested for felony bail jumping
Police arrested an 18-year-old Marshfield man for felony bail jumping on the 600 block of S. Birch Ave. The man was transported to the Marshfield Police Department, where he was booked, and later to Wood County Jail.
Tuesday, March 24
Two doors vandalized on 17th Street
Police received a report at 1:47 p.m. of criminal damage to property on the 1500 block of E. 17th St. A suspect had scratched away paint on two doors to make explicit drawings. The man who reported the vandalism took photos and forwarded them to the Marshfield Police Department. There are no suspects at this time.
Man creates disturbance, banned from nursing home
At 8:40 p.m. a nursing home employee reported that a 55-year-old Marshfield man had come into the nursing home to visit his aunt and then yelled at his aunt and created a disturbance.
The employee wished for it to be documented that the man was no longer allowed on the property. Police informed the man that if he went on the property again he would receive a citation or be arrested.
Marshfield man taken into custody on Wood County warrant
Police took a 23-year-old Marshfield man into custody on the 2000 block of W. Veterans Parkway for a Wood County warrant. Officers transported the man to the Marshfield Police Department and completed booking procedures. The man posted the required bond and was released.
Wednesday, March 25
Woman taken into custody for domestic abuse-related incident
At 2:54 a.m. police took a 46-year-old Marshfield woman into custody for a disorderly conduct, domestic abuse-related incident. The woman was transported to the Marshfield Police Department, where booking procedures were completed. After posting bond, the woman was released.
