Name of fatal car crash victim in Town of Wood released
WOOD — The Wood County Sheriff’s Department has released the name of the woman who died yesterday in a two car crash in the Town of Wood on County Highway A. Kayla Ignatowski, an 18-year-old senior at Pittsville High School, was pronounced dead at the scene following the crash, which occurred at 7:39 a.m. yesterday morning.
The other driver involved in the crash, 29-year-old Amanda Simonson, was trapped in her vehicle as a result of the crash and required extrication from her car, according to a news release from the Wood County Sheriff’s Department.
Simonson was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital for medical attention. An official from St. Joseph’s said Simonson was treated and released.
At the time of the crash Simonson was headed northbound coming around a curve while Ignatowski was traveling southbound. The investigation of the scene indicated that Ignatowski’s vehicle straightened and crossed over the center line, causing her vehicle to strike Simonson’s head on.
At the time of the crash, Simonson was wearing her seat belt, but Ignatowski was not. Simonson and Ignatowski were the only occupants of their respective cars.
The news release from the Wood County Sheriff’s Department said results from the investigation indicated that weather and road conditions were not a factor in the crash. Agencies assisting in the response included Pittsville Fire and EMS, the Pittsville Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, and Spirit Ground.
