MAPS breakfast breaks Knights of Columbus Hall record
MARSHFIELD — In its fourth year hosting the Paws & Pancakes breakfast, Marshfield Area Pet Shelter (MAPS) broke another Knights of Columbus Hall record, serving 900 guests in three and a half hours on Feb. 22. Last year’s record attendance of 860 broke the original record.
Guests stood in long lines for hot pancakes, eggs, sausage, cinnamon rolls, and coffee despite the frigid weather. More than $9,000 was raised at this year’s event.
The breakfast was made possible by the help of 55 volunteers who cooked, washed dishes, set and cleared tables, sold raffle tickets and MAPS items, and greeted and directed guests.
Breakfast was provided by Knights of Columbus Hall. Weber’s Farm Store, Seehafer Farm Creamery, Dairy Queen, and Thrivent Financial served as sponsors. Community members who donated raffle items and businesses featured on the breakfast placemat further supported the event.
“The support that we have seen throughout this community has been outstanding,” MAPS president Karen Rau said.
She said the support from people who want to see a shelter built inspires her to continue her work.
MAPS’ next major event, the Paws for Brittany Dog Walk/Fun Run, will take place May 9 at Wildwood Park. The event honors the memory of Marshfield native and pet lover Brittany Zimmermann. Last year’s inaugural event raised $10,000, which will be used to construct a free roaming cat room named in honor of Zimmermann in the future MAPS facility.
Donations to the MAPS building fund can be made through Marshfield Area Community Foundation, P.O. Box 456, Marshfield, WI 54449. Specify MAPS Capital Campaign.
