Spencer girls basketball falls to McDonell in Cloverbelt crossover

SPENCER — Chippewa Falls McDonell pulled ahead by 10 points after one quarter and led the rest of the way, defeating Spencer 44-34 in the sixth-place game of the Cloverbelt Conference girls basketball East-West crossovers on Thursday night at Spencer High School.

McDonell (8-14) led 16-6 after the first quarter and played even the rest of the way to win by 10.

Kallie Reckner scored 10 points, and Melissa Lehman had seven rebounds to lead Spencer (6-16).

Spencer shot just 32.5 percent (13 of 40) and committed 24 turnovers in the loss. The Rockets were also just 6 of 17 from the free throw line.

Sydney Schemenauer and Tessa McChesney each had 11 points to top the Macks.

Spencer will open WIAA Division 4 postseason play at Edgar in a regional quarterfinal at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The game will be broadcast on WOSQ-FM 92.3 and wdlbwosq.com.
