UW-Marshfield/Wood County women’s basketball wins regular-season finale over UW-Fond du Lac

MARSHFIELD — The University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County women’s basketball team started strong and knocked off UW-Fond du Lac 62-50 at home on Monday night to wrap up second place in the Wisconsin Collegiate Conference.
The Marauders finish the regular season with a 12-7 record and an 11-4 mark in the WCC.
Marshfield was ahead 33-15 at halftime and led by at least eight points the rest of the way.
Paige Newman had 14 points, seven assists, and six rebounds; Allie Paitel added 14 points and eight rebounds; Carrie Stroetz had 11 points and six rebounds; and Taylor Lynn had 10 points, eight rebounds, and six assists as the Marauders had a balanced attack.
UW-Marshfield held a 52-44 rebounding advantage and shot 39 percent (28-for-71) while holding Fond du Lac to 26 percent from the field.
UW-Fond du Lac will make the trip back to Marshfield on Saturday as the two teams will square off in the first round of the WCC playoffs at 1 p.m. at the Marauder Gym.
